A strong petrochemical industry will provide a solid foundation for the growth and development of other industries either directly or indirectly derived from the industry. Even the strong structure of the petrochemical industry, especially on the upstream side will support the acceleration of its downstream industry growth. This step is being carried out by the government in developing the petrochemical industry in the country today.
The government through PT Pertamina in the next five years (2020 – 2025) plans to shift the company’s business from the fuel oil business to petrochemicals. The government has also acquired PT Tuban Petrochemical Industries (TPI) worth Rp 3,1 trillion. This move made the red plate company officially the majority shareholder of TPI, the holding of the aromatic factory PT Trans Pacific Petrochemical Indotama (TPPI), based in Tuban, East Java.
In the private sector, PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical Tbk through its subsidiary, PT Chandra Asri Perkasa (CAP2) is building a second petrochemical complex. The project will later produce chemicals Benzene, Ethylene, Propylene, Butadiene, HDPE, LDPE, Polypropylene, Mixed C4, Gasoline.
